I vote to endorse these 2 candidates. -Clint

Rep. Christine Barber is in her third term representing portions of Somerville and Medford (34th Middlesex District), and is facing a primary challenge this year.  She was interviewed by Peter Enrich and Jay Kaufman, who strongly recommend a PDM endorsement.  Rep. Barber has taken on significant leadership within the progressive caucus, serving as the lead sponsor for the Driving Families Forward (immigrant driver’s license) legislation, on corporate tax reform, and on a range of other key issues.  In the interview, she demonstrated a nuanced and engaged vision of how to organize, both inside the State House and outside, to build progressive power over coming years.

Amber Hewett is running to unseat Republican Representative James Kelcourse in the 1st Essex District (Amesbury, Newburyport, Salisbury).  She was interviewed by Andrew Fischer, Jay Kaufman, and Peter Enrich, who unanimously and enthusiastically recommend endorsement.   Amber has been working for a number of years doing state legislative advocacy on clean energy policy for the National Wildlife Federation, and is a savvy student of the state legislative process.  Beyond her deep commitment to climate issues, she’s also focused on issues of legislative transparency, community engagement, and a range of policy issues (housing, transit, etc.) impacting working families.  This is a winnable district, and a great opportunity to replace a Republican representative with a progressive leader.
