PDM does not endorse candidates for national office. We do, however, encourage members to use this website,
calendar, and listserv to engage in a robust debate about candidates and to publicize campaign events.

PDM endorses statewide initiative petitions, important state and local legislative measures, and candidates for statewide and local office who receive the support of a majority of
Sustaining Members who participate in the endorsement vote. PDM does everything it can to support the campaigns of endorsed candidates by recruiting volunteers, encouraging financial contributions, and spreading the word to our members.

We help these campaigns as activist coordinators, phone bankers, canvassers, volunteers and contributors that are at the heart of grass roots.

2016 Governor's Council Endorsements

Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts (PDM) is proud to announce our endorsement of three progressive candidates in the upcoming primary elections for Governor’s Council Thursday, September 8):

The Governor’s Council is an important, if often unnoticed, part of state government, responsible, most significantly, for confirmation of all judicial appointments.  Because of the size of the districts and the relative obscurity of the Council, these elections often don’t get the attention they deserve, with unfortunate consequences for the composition of the Council.  PDM is one of the only statewide organizations seeking to focus greater attention on these elections, and to identify and support progressive candidates.

PDM is a statewide network of grassroots activists who work together to build a more progressive Massachusetts.  We support progressive candidates, work to enact key progressive public policies, and join together to expand our skills and relationships in order to build progressive power in the Commonwealth.

We only make a small number of endorsements in each election cycle, in order to focus our members’ efforts on campaigns where we can make the most difference.  We decide on endorsement through consultation with, and voting by, our sustaining members.  For the Governor’s Council races, PDM developed and circulated a questionnaire to all candidates to help guide our endorsement decisions.  All of the responses we received, including those from our three endorsed candidates, are at this link.

Please join us in supporting these three progressive candidates.  We will be posting and circulating information about specific ways you can help each campaign over the coming weeks.

2016 State Legislative Endorsements

Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts (PDM) is proud to announce our endorsement of five progressive champions in the upcoming legislative primary elections (Sept. 8):

  • Sen. Pat Jehlen for re-election in the 2d Middlesex Senate district (Somerville, Cambridge, Medford, Winchester)
  • Mike Connolly for State Representative in the 26th Middlesex District (Cambridge, Somerville), where he is running against incumbent Tim Toomey
  • Moses Dixon for State Representative in the 17th Worcester District (Worcester, Leicester), where he is running for the Democratic nomination to oppose incumbent Republican Kate Campanale
  • Jack Patrick Lewis for State Representative in the 7th Middlesex District (Framingham, Ashland), where he has both a primary and a general election race to fill an open seat (formerly held by Tom Sannicandro)
  • Natalie Higgins for State Representative in the 4th Worcester District (Leominster), where she has both a primary and general election race to fill an open seat (formerly held by Dennis Rosa)

All five of these candidates are strong progressives, endorsed by the Mass Alliance.  And all five are in winnable, but challenging, races, where the outcome will make a significant difference in how progressive the representation of that district will be.

As a critical first step, all of these candidates need the resources to run strong campaigns between now and Sept. 8.  Please make contributions to as many of them as you can.  You can make donations at the links here:

We anticipate that we’ll be announcing several additional endorsements in other races over the coming weeks.
