About PDM
Mission and key contacts for the Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts
Beginning
In the wake of the 2002 gubernatorial election, we set out to build a statewide organization that could make a difference in electing progressive Democrats to public office and work hard to articulate and implement a progressive agenda. In September 2005, PDM was one of the first statewide organizations to endorse Deval Patrick for Governor. Our members were campaign leaders across the Commonwealth, and PDM provided organizing and strategy workshops for campaign workers across Massachusetts.
Goals
Practicing political action is integral to what it means to be citizens in a constitutional democracy. PDM is committed to creating and training a network of progressive activists who support one another as well as progressive causes and candidates across the Commonwealth.
2008 Campaigns
We have demonstrated the value of building across election cycles. For the 2008 election, we are mounting statewide efforts on two fronts:
- Supporting the PDM Half-Dozen, six progressive candidates to be chosen this summer who will make a difference in the legislature
- Opposing the ballot proposition to eliminate the state income tax
Public Political Dialogue
PDM has embarked on an exciting new initiative, aimed at articulating
and implementing a progressive agenda. Chapters have adopted key issues such as tax fairness, education, and the creation of a healthy environment. They are framing them in a progressive context while developing strategies for implementing progressive solutions.
Partnerships
Our chapters are also forming partnerships with other advocacy groups — including Mass Alliance, One Massachusetts, and Stand for Children — to support and extend this crucial work.
Contact us
We now have seven PDM chapters spanning the state: in the Southern Berkshires, Chelmsford, Lexington, Brookline and Cape Ann, with new chapters forming in Blackstone Valley and Springfield. We also have members who are not part of a chapter.
